Joseph V. Vandenberge, Sr. House

This stunning Neoclassical Revival residence is arguably one of Jules Leffland’s most arresting residential designs. It was built in 1908 for J. V. Vandenberge, a successful local attorney who was one of the founders of Victoria Bank & Trust. The house was sold in 1929 to John W. Henderson, and in later years was owned by Joseph Conti and his wife, Marguerite Boes Conti. With its two imposing porticoes – one elliptical – the house responds well to both street fronts. NR-1986
