Joseph Bianchi House

Giuseppe “Joe” Bianchi was born in 1871 in northern Italy. When he was 14 he boarded a ship, crossed the Atlantic, and eventually settled in Victoria. His modest home was built around 1906. The two-story addition was added some time later. Bianchi built his shop next door, working in the blacksmithing trade his entire adult life. The fence fronting the east façade was hand-forged by Joe, who was widely renowned for his craftsmanship, especially for his hand-made spurs and bits. His work is still visible in and around many historic homes. He and his wife Matilda Urban Bianchi were active in and highly regarded throughout the community. The home, and the hand-forged fence, have been restored by the current owners.
